Abchurch Communications is delighted that its client TMO Renewables has won the 2009 national Carbon Trust Innovation Award in the ‘Transport’ category. TMO’s CEO Hamish Curran collected the award on 26 November 2009 in London, in a ceremony attended by leading lights from the UK’s cleantech revolution.
TMO Renewables has developed a unique process for converting a wide variety of cheap and abundant waste biomass into sustainable, ‘second generation’ ethanol that does not require the use of food crops. At the heart of the process is a common thermophilic bacterium which has a broad appetite and is capable of producing ethanol at high yields. Verified in the lab, TMO has now brought its technology to an industrial scale in its process demonstration plant in Surrey – the UK’s first and the world’s only fully integrated industrial scale demonstration of second-generation bioethanol technology.
Commenting on TMO’s award win, Justin Heath, Managing Director and Head of the Environment practice at Abchurch, said: “We are thrilled that TMO’s contribution to the biofuels industry have been recognised by this prestigious award win. We are also proud to have supported TMO since 2007, proactively engaging with media and investors to land consistent, high quality coverage for TMO which has raised the Company’s profile amongst, industry, financial and regulatory audiences.”
